The Course
The course programme is designed to maximise French practice and allow participants time to relax and enjoy the region. We use a total immersion method, including 18 hours of formal lessons per week and informal practice through activities and during meals. Courses require a basic knowledge of French and there are two
levels elementary and intermediate. There is a maximum of 6 participants in each group and as we only run one course at a time, during meals and activities everybody will have a similar level of French.

The Lessons

Lessons are given by Magali, who will encourage and help you to speak French all day long. Before becoming a teacher, Magali graduated university with a degree in English. She later trained as a French teacher, specialising in pronunciation. Before starting 'Parlons en Provence' in 2002, Magali gave total immersion courses for staff at the European Space Agency in Holland and also taught for three years in Japan.

The lessons are structured, but given in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Emphasis is placed on speaking, helping build confidence. Grammatical points are practised using oral exercises and discussion. Special attention is given to the particularities of French pronunciation, helping you to speak clearer and understand better. Vocabulary is worked on through daily life situations, based as much as possible on participants' own experience and interests.

The Visits
During the week we usually organise three or four visits outside the centre and one or two activities at the centre. Our visits and activities are varied to give you a sample of local life and the regions culture, history and local craft. They are a great opportunities to practice what you learn in class and to visit the region. The visits include:

  • The beautiful villages of St Rémy and Les Alpilles
  • An insight into the famous Festival d'Avignon in July, the Palais des Papes and the "Pont d'Avignon"
  • Walks in the Luberon and its medieval villages: Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux...
  • Strolling around a Provençal Market
  • A guided tour of a local château and our local village
We also do the following activities depending on the season:
  • Wine tasting with the help of a local caviste
  • Classes in Provençal cuisine
