The theatre and dance festival in Avignon, 8
miles away,
is the region's cultural focal point during July. It is a huge
multi-arts celebration and the largest festival of it's kind in Europe with over 700
performances. The festival is divided into the 'in' - with some of Europe's
leading directors- and the 'off' - which resembles the 'fringe' at the
Edinburgh festival. Throughout the town there are
plays, dance and music, ranging from professional productions in the
spectacular setting of 'Le Palais de Papes' to lively amateur
productions in back street halls.
The cafés are
animated by small theatre sketches and street acts.
The festival runs from July 6 to July
28 and visits are incorporated into our courses during that time. We
also offer a special week with a different program for Intermediate
level, which is described below.
